Hearing Aid Repair in Tucson, AZ
What we repair
Most hearing aid problems are mechanical or acoustic rather than electronic, and a large share are solved the same day in our office. We handle:
- Weak, muffled or distorted sound
- No sound at all
- Whistling and feedback
- Blocked receivers, wax guards and domes
- Moisture damage and corroded battery contacts
- Broken tubing, earmolds and shells
- Batteries that drain far too quickly
- Charging cases and rechargeable aids that will not hold a charge
- Bluetooth and phone streaming that keeps dropping
We service the brands we fit and dispense, including Widex, ReSound, Oticon and Unitron. If your aids were bought elsewhere, bring them in anyway — we will tell you honestly whether we can service them here or whether they need to go back to the manufacturer.
In-office repair or manufacturer repair
There are two kinds of repair, and knowing which one you need saves you time.
In-office repair. Cleaning, wax guard and dome replacement, retubing, new earmolds, receiver swaps, reprogramming and moisture treatment are all done here at our Tucson office. In most cases you walk out with working hearing aids the same visit.
Manufacturer repair. If the internal electronics have failed, or the shell is cracked, the aid goes back to the manufacturer’s repair lab. We package and ship it, track it, and fit it back on you when it returns. If your aids are still under manufacturer warranty, that repair is usually covered by the warranty — we will check your paperwork and tell you before anything is sent.
What happens when you bring your hearing aids in
- We listen to the aid on a listening stethoscope and check it against your fitting settings.
- We inspect the receiver, wax guard, dome, tubing and microphone ports under magnification.
- We look in your ears. Wax is one of the most common reasons a hearing aid sounds dead, and it is not a fault in the device at all.
- We clean, replace the worn parts and re-verify the sound.
- If it needs the manufacturer, we send it out and keep you posted until it is back.
Three things to try before you come in
These fix a surprising number of “broken” hearing aids.
Change the battery, or fully charge it. A fresh battery or a full charge rules out the simplest cause first. If you are unsure which battery your aid takes, we stock them and can show you.
Change the wax guard and dome. A wax guard blocked with debris will silence an aid completely. Replacing it takes seconds once you have been shown how.
Dry it overnight. Tucson heat means sweat, and sweat means moisture inside the aid. An electric dryer overnight often brings a muffled aid back.
If sound is still weak or absent after all three, the aid needs servicing. Bring it in.
Why sound quality drops even when nothing is broken
Sometimes the hearing aid is working exactly as programmed and the problem is elsewhere. Impacted ear wax blocks sound before it reaches your ear, and it is common — that is why we offer professional ear wax removal. Hearing can also change over time, so an aid programmed to last year’s hearing will feel flat today. In that case the fix is a fresh hearing evaluation and a reprogram, not a repair.
When it is time to replace instead of repair
Repair is almost always the cheaper answer, but not always the right one. Consider replacing when the same fault keeps coming back, when the manufacturer no longer supports or stocks parts for your model, or when your hearing has changed enough that the aid can no longer be programmed to match it. Newer technology also brings real gains in noisy places and in phone streaming. If you are weighing this up, our audiologists will give you a straight answer, and you can read about current options in hearing aids in Tucson and the different types of hearing aids.

Common Questions
Can you repair hearing aids I did not buy from you?
Bring them in and we will look. We service the brands we dispense, including Widex, ReSound, Oticon and Unitron. If a repair has to go through the manufacturer, we will tell you that at the appointment rather than after.
How long does a hearing aid repair take?
Cleaning, wax guard and dome changes, retubing and receiver replacement are usually done while you wait. Repairs that go to the manufacturer’s lab take longer, and we will give you the current turnaround when we send it.
My hearing aid is completely silent. Is it broken?
Often not. Change the battery or fully charge it, replace the wax guard and dome, and dry it overnight. If it is still silent, it needs servicing, and it is also worth having your ears checked for wax.
Does my warranty cover the repair?
Most new hearing aids come with a manufacturer warranty that covers repair for a set period. Bring your paperwork, or let us look it up, and we will confirm whether your repair is covered before anything is sent away.
Why does my hearing aid whistle?
Feedback usually means sound is leaking back out of your ear. A loose or worn dome, an earmold that no longer fits, or wax in the ear canal are the usual causes. All three are fixable in the office.
Can moisture damage a hearing aid?
Yes. Sweat and humidity corrode battery contacts and dull the receiver. Drying your aids overnight is the single best habit for making them last, and we sell electric dryers in our shop.
Do I need an appointment for a hearing aid repair?
Services are by appointment, but we hold daily walk-in hours specifically so hearing aid problems can be checked quickly. Call 520-825-4770 and we will fit you in.
